Furious homeowners expelled a cruel animal abuser from their community following distressing footage depicting him extracting lifeless canines from his “house of horrors”. Steven Brown was recorded perpetrating severe sexual and physical assaults on little dogs at his residence.

Worried neighbours provided film that seemingly depicted Brown interacting with multiple canines that were either deceased or near death. A notably disturbing video depicted a German shepherd puppy being dragged down stairs into the trunk of Brown’s vehicle, just after residents reported hearing dogs “screaming” in terror and agony – the puppy appeared inert.

Steven Brown was convicted in court on two charges of egregious animal cruelty, with evidence of his abhorrent actions presented through unsettling footage acquired by the SSPCA’s Special Investigations Unit. The investigation revealed a collection of crude, blood-stained tools purportedly employed to brutally sexually and physically assault the dogs at his residence in Ashgill, Lanarkshire.

In June 2023, enraged neighbours observed SSPCA and police authorities conduct a raid on Steven Brown’s property, recovering a baseball bat, metal pipes soaked with canine blood, and a dog tooth located in the lavatory, while remnants of blood marked the bathtub and filthy floor.

Neighbours, predominantly dog owners and animal aficionados, overtly expressed their contempt, resulting in the man being removed in a police vehicle amid their taunts.

John Greechan, Steven Brown’s former upstairs neighbour, disclosed that he notified the SSPCA after experiencing “screaming” from dogs one night in Brown’s apartment, which contained several small Chihuahuas, a French bulldog, and a German shepherd puppy.

Mr Greechan stated, “I could hear loud thumping in his flat and the dogs were emitting distressing, heart-wrenching screams, not mere barks, as if they were in a state of terror.” It appeared to me that he was striking them and sexually assaulting with a something, since there were loud fringe accompanied by distressing noises.

He depicted a harrowing tableau as the SSPCA departed from the residence. “As neighbours observed the SSPCA exiting the residence, they noticed the agents carrying a pole that was evidently stained with red blood,” he stated. “It was deformed, as if it had collided with an object.” That appeared incorrect and provoked anger among individuals. We did not desire his presence on the street; he was the one who exhibited animalistic behaviour.

John, who became Steven Brown’s neighbour in 2022, stated: “It was challenging to keep track of the dogs, as there were occasionally more than just his four Chihuahuas.” Based on the arrivals and departures, it was estimated that four dogs had perished. One of the small dogs had three legs and claimed that it had fallen down the stairs. Who is aware of its fate? I am uncertain whether it is still alive.

He stated, “What I heard and what they recorded him doing on video was utterly reprehensible.” He ought to be incarcerated. Viewers of the videos may observe canines that seemed to be inanimate.

Steven Brown was apprehended from his flat in handcuffs following a police report in June 2023. The subsequent day, Brown astonished residents by nonchalantly emerging for a Chinese takeaway as like nothing had transpired.

Drew Sellars, 57, another neighbour, notified the SSPCA regarding Steven Brown after hearing dogs “squealing and screaming.” He stated, “The following morning, while playing golf, I heard a blood-curdling noise when I attempted to place my clubs in the car the previous night.” It appeared as though dogs were being subjected to violence.

I then heard distressing squeals and cries from dogs. It was dreadful and atrocious. I contacted the SSPCA, and they informed me that they were already conducting an investigation into him. The dogs’ screams will forever haunt me. The tapes evidently demonstrated that within 24 hours, Steven Brown had placed the large dog in the car and departed with it. I was unable to view it, but everyone remarked that it appeared evidently lifeless.

Steven Brown appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court last November and confessed to injuring a Chihuahua, now deceased, between April 4 and April 5 by dragging the diminutive animal on its lead and failing to obtain veterinary assistance despite the dog’s evident illness.

Steven Brown also confessed to injuring another Chihuahua by kicking the animal as it entered his flat. The court dismissed a case against Brown regarding the purported maltreatment of seven dogs—comprising a German shepherd, a French bulldog, and five Chihuahuas—alleging that he instilled fear and sorrow in them, resulting in the unexplained deaths of four.

He received a community payback order to be fulfilled over two years, a five-month electronically monitored curfew, and a prohibition on pet ownership for the following five years.

So in 5 years Steven Brown will be back sexually and physically assaulting dogs, in the meantime who knows who he will target.
