A PE teacher, Steven Laverty Walton Paedophile, who engaged in a sexual relationship with a former student has been sentenced to prison as a result of his disgraceful actions.

Steven Laverty was prohibited from teaching a decade ago following the revelation of his misconduct. However, he has since been held accountable for his abhorrent sexual behaviour with the girl, whose life was reportedly “ruined” due to the betrayal of trust.

In a previous trial at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that the individual, who is currently 48 years old, engaged in sexual activity with a former student over the period between 2000 and 2009. This occurred after the student left the school where the individual was employed as a teacher, but she was still below the legal age of consent, 16. Steven Laverty made a false statement by asserting that she was 16 years old.

Martine Snowdon, the prosecutor, explained that the adolescent resorted to self-harming and experienced a sense of “isolation” due to his criminal behaviour. Additionally, it has been reported that she was burdened by a “sinister influence that she believes has ruined her existence.”

Steven Laverty, residing on Stuart Road in Walton, had previously been prohibited from practising his profession due to his demonstrated “failure to adhere to appropriate boundaries about his professional role”, which constituted a “blatant breach of trust”. However, he evaded prosecution at that moment because he had directed his victim to inform police that she was 16 years old when they engaged in sexual activity.

However, a panel had previously determined that the father of two had also “physically touched a 14-year-old boy’s groin” during a physical education course. Steven Laverty subsequently accepted a short-term position as an arts educator at a school in Greater Manchester, during which he forcibly ejected a 12-year-old student from a classroom and physically dragged another student across the floor.

Steven Laverty lacks any prior criminal records. During the court proceedings yesterday afternoon, Charlotte Kenny, the defence attorney, stated that the court was presented with compelling evidence regarding the defendant’s excessive alcohol consumption during the relevant period. Additionally, information was given regarding the terrible circumstances surrounding his mother’s death and the subsequent emotional impact it had on him.

“The defendant claims that as a consequence, he experienced a significant internal deterioration.” This was a significant lapse of judgment during a period when the defendant was experiencing deep emotional distress as they were grappling with the tragic loss of their mother.

“This transgression occurred a considerable time in the past. Mr. Steven Laverty has demonstrated exceptional parenting skills.

“He is currently employed and has been invited to return to work under all circumstances.” He is capable of continuing to provide.

Steven Laverty was convicted on a single charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor by a jury while being acquitted of nine further charges. On Thursday, he was incarcerated for three years and was mandated to register as a sex offender permanently.

In her sentencing, Judge Louise Brandon stated, “You were aware that she had been your student.” The jury was convinced that you did not possess a reasonable belief that she was 16 years old.

“The circumstance in which you currently find yourself, despite the passage of numerous years, is solely the result of your actions.” She has experienced profound trauma as a result of the events that transpired.

“I cannot determine with certainty that you are sincerely and completely repentant.” Your sole regret is for the current predicament you are facing.
