A retiree, Robert McCurdie Ayr paedophile, has been convicted of committing sexual assault in the past against three victims, one of whom was only eight years old. As he was sentenced, he received a strong condemnation, with someone telling him to “burn in hell”.
Robert McCurdie has refuted six claims, which include sexual assaults and inappropriate, offensive, sexually driven behaviour and actions. These alleged offences are said to have occurred starting from the late 1990s.
However, Robert McCurdie, who is currently 68 years old, was convicted by a jury at Ayr Sheriff Court for sexually assaulting a woman between 1999 and the early 2000s. The assault involved frequently touching her inappropriately and kissing her on the lips.
In addition, he was found guilty of engaging in indecent behaviour towards an eight-year-old child in Ayr on August 1, 1998. This involved entering her bed while she was asleep and sexually assaulting her.
In addition, the jury convicted Robert McCurdie of a third offence, precisely the act of indecently assaulting another female victim on January 1, 2010, while she was asleep.
Nevertheless, the jury absolved him of additional accusations that he had coerced a girl, aged seven or eight, to witness him engaging in sexual intercourse with a lady in the mid-1980s, of molesting the same kid, and of violating a bail condition imposed by the court by approaching one of his purported victims last year.
The sentence was postponed to get criminal justice social work reports and conduct a risk assessment. Robert McCurdie was subsequently granted bail.
Upon his return to court last week, his defence barrister stated that he went back to his residence after the trial’s end, and later that evening, an altercation occurred.
“He is currently residing in a homeless shelter.”
“The report is unsurprising, considering the evidence he presented.”
“He had a mundane upbringing; he went to school, dropped out, worked for the majority of his life, and later experienced a stroke, during which he lived alone and relied on state benefits for financial support.”
“He relies on a walking aid due to many physical ailments.”
“He possesses knowledge of the various alternatives that the court has at its disposal.”
Sheriff Desmond Leslie stated that the jury thoroughly examined all the evidence, including your own, and independently evaluated it.
“I acknowledge that you continue to deny the crimes for which you were found guilty by the jury, but it is the jury’s decision that ultimately stands.”
“The offences you were found guilty of are grave.” I have no intention of providing a detailed analysis of them.
“You are aware of the crime for which you were found guilty.” Imprisonment is unavoidable.
He received a two-year prison sentence and was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
As he was escorted downstairs to start his sentence, the public gallery erupted with cries of “rot in hell”.
