A paedophile teacher, Brian Johncock, has passed away while incarcerated for the sexual assault of a young student, according to a report from HMP Lewes.
In 2019, Brian Johncock was convicted of multiple charges after a court revealed that he had met the boy at his residence in Wallington during the 1960s and 1970s.
The abuse commenced after Brian Johncock identified and groomed the victim during his tenure as a teacher, persisting for several years.
Detective Constable Giles Weeden, who led the investigation after the victim came forward in 2017, said: “Brian Johncock used his job as a teacher to exploit a vulnerable child under his care.
“Instead of being a beacon of support, Brian Johncock completely abused his position and groomed a young child for his own gratification.”
DC Weeden mentioned the possibility of other victims in the areas of Clapham and Purley.
In 2019, Brian Johncock was jailed for 12 years for four counts of sexual assault/indecency against the victim.
A Prison and Probation Ombudsman released on Tuesday (October 15) has now revealed that Brian Johncock died while receiving surgery for a suspected cancerous tumour in February 2022.
Brian Johncock was 82 years old at the time of his death and was a serving prisoner at HMP Lewes.
