A solitary Newcastle paedophile, Charles Angus, who accessed disturbing abuse photographs of a six-month-old kid has evaded incarceration.
Charles Angus was apprehended with more than 2,000 static and dynamic photographs of child exploitation during a police raid on his residence. The 69-year-old possessed category A, B, and C photos, including one depicting a kid as young as six months old.
Newcastle Crown Court was informed that Charles Angus, who is “profoundly unwell,” experienced a “notable decline in reputation” as he had no prior convictions. He attended court on Wednesday to receive sentencing on three charges of creating indecent photos and one charge of possessing a forbidden image.
Rachel Kelly, representing the prosecution, stated: “On March 9, 2023, law enforcement officials visited the defendant’s residence and confiscated two laptops.” She stated that Charles Angus had been seeking inappropriate content online and had, on one occasion, searched for “pre-teen sex stories.” The court was informed that Charles Angus possessed a total of 2,032 indecent photos, which included one banned image featuring a six-month-old kid.
Glenn Gatland, in defence, stated that Charles Angus has a significant medical issue and has expressed remorse. He stated: “He is an isolated individual who has resided alone for more than 20 years.” He stated that the motivation for perpetrating these acts was his alone, use of alcohol, and encountering a website.
“After that he became addicted to these sites he shouldn’t have done. He acknowledges it was a serious error or judgement.” Mr Gatland added that Charles Angus is “extremely unwell” and would be “extremely vulnerable in a custodial setting”.
Recorder David Gordon, sentencing him, said: “Sometimes it can be said that offending of this kind is criminal offending, but without a victim. That is entirely untrue. Each image of child sexual exploitation represents real harm to a real child in the real world. The act of possessing and downloading these images perpetuates the demand for the creation of more.”
Recorder Gordon said Angus had a “significant fall from grace” and suffers from a severe physical disability. Charles Angus was given 12 months prison, suspended for two years and made subject of a six month curfew between 7pm and 7am.
Charles Angus must also complete 40 rehabilitation days and pay £1,000 court costs. Charles Angus will be on the sex offender’s register for 10 years and a 10 year sexual harm prevention order was also imposed.
