A serving officer of the Metropolitan Police, Inspector Michael Richards, has appeared in court on charges of sexual assault.

Inspector Michael Richards, affiliated with Learning and Development, was indicted on two counts of sexual assault by touching on Sunday, 25 May.

He attended Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 June. He was granted bail to appear next in Southwark Crown Court on Monday, 21 July.

He is now suspended from duty ON FULL PAY.

Insp Richards was apprehended on Wednesday, September 17, on allegations of sexual assault by physical contact. The charges are to a male and a female victim, both of whom are above 18 years old. The events are purported to have occurred on the same day as the arrest while Inspector Richards was off-duty.

The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards is informed.
