Jagdeep Singh Leicester Rapist

Jagdeep Singh, the Leicester Rapist, who purported to be aiding a young woman before raping her was sentenced to prison yesterday (Tuesday, July 9) at Leicester Crown Court.

The 21-year-old victim had been out with companions in the city centre in the early hours of Friday, January 12, 2019.

At the conclusion of the night, the victim took a taxi to her friend’s home. She decided to leave shortly after her arrival and was waiting for a taxi on Western Road in Leicester.

She felt ill and called an ambulance; while she was on the phone, a man approached her and offered to help. The phone handler overheard the exchange and notified the police.

When authorities arrived, the victim had not been located, so they conducted an investigation at her home address.

The victim’s parents got anxious when they couldn’t contact her; she was eventually reported missing.

Later that morning, the victim contacted her parents and told that she had been raped by a man in an apartment.

She was able to specify the place where officers arrested 35-year-old Jagdeep Singh. Singh of Harrow Road, Leicester, denied pushing the woman into sexual activity, claiming it was all voluntary and that he was worried about the victim and was assisting her in getting to a secure area.

Jagdeep Singh was scheduled to stand trial this week, but he pleaded guilty to rape on the second day. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

The investigating officer was Detective Constable Joe Mulvany of the force’s Signals squad. He stated: “Throughout the investigation, Jagdeep Singh maintained his innocence and that he did engage in sexual activity with the victim, but it was all consensual.”

“We are glad that he has pleaded guilty, sparing the victim the agony of reliving what occurred to her in court. She has found the research and process difficult. She has demonstrated incredible bravery throughout, and we hope she now believes that justice has been served.

“The defendant now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his actions that night.” He preyed on a weak person to satisfy his own desires. The victim was in no condition to consent to anything and was plainly distressed when he came across her in the street.

“We hope that this case and its resolution reassures people and gives victims the courage to speak up and disclose what has occurred to them. We have expert officers who can guide and support you through the procedure and connect you with other support agencies.”
