John Beaumont, the Paedophile Sex Offender, confessed to attacking three University of St Andrews students in the 1980s. After the Chornobyl accident, a guy who indecently attacked three persons at a Scottish university claimed to be doing radiation tests but has been imprisoned.

Following his admission of indecent assault of three University of St Andrews students throughout the 1980s, John Beaumont was imprisoned for a further four years and eight months.

The 66-year-old will serve this sentence consecutively to a prior jail term he acquired from a Manchester court in 2017 after being found guilty of comparable acts.

Scotland’s Crown Office claimed Beaumont passed for a Ministry of Defence official sent to compile samples from individuals following the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear plant accident, following the most recent conviction.

Rising worries about radiation poisoning resulted from the explosion at the nuclear power facility in Ukraine, then a part of the Soviet Union.

He created phoney identification and consent paperwork at the University of St Andrews, then subjected two men and a woman to fictitious medical exams.

After befriending one man, Beaumont informed him, depending on his medical information, that his victim was more likely to get cancer.

Prosecutors claimed this left the victim “terrified.”

Later, when called to Beaumont’s chamber, the individual was advised the authorities would charge him should he breach a bogus Official Secrets non-disclosure agreement.

Then Beaumont attacked the man, claiming to have taken samples from him using a hypodermic needle, and underwent multiple tests after that.

Targeting a second man once, Beaumont, who became a sub-warden at the residence halls during this period of misbehaviour, singled out one.

Prosecutors said this victim felt “embarrassed, awkward, and anxious” following Beaumont’s syringe sample taken from him and trusted Beaumont’s assertions regarding the “secret mission”.

Beaumont contacted a woman who said he had been requested to record her radiation levels by the Foreign Office.

She agreed to the test with Beaumont also utilising a Geiger counter in the fictitious examination after remembering that he was “very convincing”.

At the Edinburgh High Court on October 6, 2023, Beaumont admitted three charges of indecent assault.

Friday saw a court inflict an extra four-year and eight-month term.

In 2017, he was imprisoned for 13 and a half years in a Manchester court.

Commenting following the sentence on Friday, High Court procurator fiscal Katrina Parkes said: “John Beaumont exploited and preyed on vulnerable pupils who should have been protected under his care.

“He took extraordinary measures to persuade them he was performing legitimate medical testing, taking advantage of their anxieties.

“His victims have been brave and tenacious in making this monster answerable for his actions.

“This conviction has been confirmed in part by them.

“I would urge all victims of similar offending – whatever the length of time ago it may have happened – to come forward, report it and seek help.”
