A guy from Pontypool, Joseph Bold Talywain Paedophile, was discovered to possess 1,550 obscene photographs, including movies, on his laptop and two external hard drives.

Joseph Bold, 36, of Church Road, Talywain, Pontypool, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on 6 February.

On 11 March of the previous year, law enforcement conducted a search at his residence in Pontypool, discovering a laptop and two hard drives.

An examination of the Acer laptop and hard drives revealed inappropriate photographs and videos of minors.

The cops discovered 178 photographs of child pornography on the Acer laptop and a total of 1,372 on the two hard drives.

His gadgets contained 821 category A, 374 category B, and 352 obscene photographs of children.

The police officers discovered a little quantity of cannabis wrapped in foil during their search of his residence.

The prosecution, Mr Nigel Fryer said: “Mr Joseph Bold was interviewed by the police. In that interview he gave a prepared statement.

“He said he used Torrent software, a well-known software to download movies, television shows and music.

“That he didn’t intentionally download any child pornography.”

The defendant later pleaded guilty to the offences at Cardiff Magistrates Court on 9 January this year.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders order in the magistrate’s court when he entered the guilty plea.

His defence lawyer, Mr Andrew Davies told the court the defendant had turned to cannabis after his close friend died during lockdown.

“The death of his friend and isolation present during lockdown have not left him to this day. He understands he needs to be more social.”

The judge her honour Celia Hughes told the defendant: “without people such as yourself, the trade in child abuse diminishes.”

The defendant was given a sentence of eight months imprisonment suspended for 23 months.

Joseph Bold was also ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity, 250 hours of unpaid work, and to pay a £200 fine.
