Mark Smith, the Sutton paedophile, a 30-year-old individual, has received a sentence of 13 years and six months following his admission of guilt for the crimes of rape and assault by penetration.
He is required to fulfil a one-year extended licence period.
On June 4, 2016, the man coerced a girl into participating in a sexual act at a location in Canvey.
The victim complained to Essex Police, stating that the perpetrator, Mark Smith, coerced her into complying and emphasised that it should remain confidential between them.
She expressed feeling extremely humiliated and frightened, which prevented her from confiding in anybody about the incident. Consequently, she was burdened with believing she was responsible for what had occurred.
Due to the assault, the victim faced substantial challenges with her mental well-being, necessitating the assistance of a professional.
In August 2019, the offences were revealed to Essex Police.
Mark Smith, residing on Florian Avenue in Sutton, was apprehended the following month. During the initial questioning, he claimed no recollection of the occurrence and was uncertain if he was at the residence that day.
Subsequently, he faced charges of rape and assault by penetration and confessed to committing these crimes before Basildon Crown Court on March 30, 2022.
In addition, he was convicted for a distinct offence of inducing a minor to participate in sexual activity without their consent.
Mark Smith committed this offence while on bail in January 2022.
Detective Constable Victoria Leese, the lead investigator of the child abuse investigation team, commended the victim’s bravery in enduring a traumatic experience that has had enduring consequences.
“No one should endure the same ordeal as she has, and she has demonstrated remarkable courage in sharing the details of what occurred with us.”
Mark Smith coerced her into engaging in a sexual act by issuing threats. The individual’s behaviour is disgusting, and I am gratified that he has now faced consequences for his acts.
“I anticipate that this outcome will assist the victim in progressing.”
“I would like to express my admiration for the families of the victims, who have shown unwavering courage and confidence in the police throughout this entire process.”
