A young woman, who was raped numerous times by Osian Owen, stated that her childhood has been taken from her, although she is moving away from the “darkness.” Osian Owen, aged 28, sexually assaulted the youngster while she was under 13 and victimised another individual several years prior.
Mould Crown Court determined that he was convicted of five counts of rape against the initial victim during a trial last month. Osian Owen was additionally convicted of forcing or instigating the second girl, who was also under 13 at the time, to participate in sexual conduct.
Today, a court characterised the defendant, Osian Owen, from Min y Ddol, Maesgeirchen, Bangor, as “depraved” and stated that he shown no remorse for his offences. During the sentencing hearing, prosecutor Joshua Gorst stated that the rape victim wished to personally provide a statement regarding her experience.
The young woman, whose identity is withheld for confidentiality, stated that she was discredited until the veracity was shown. She remarked about Osian Owen: “He appropriated my childhood; however, today I relinquish all the darkness, shame, and burden to you.”
“I shall persevere – liberated from the shadows of your malice.” The prosecutor presented a statement from the second victim, whose identity remains undisclosed.
She stated that Osian Owen had caused her to feel repulsed and unclean, which exacerbated her academic experience. She remarked, “It was a dreadful secret to conceal.”
Although it occurred a considerable time ago, she doubted anyone would believe her; yet, she ultimately felt empowered to disclose her experience as an older teenager. “This transformed her into a more resilient version of herself.” “I could cease being your victim and move on from the past,” she remarked.
Gareth Bellis, in defence, stated that Osian Owen was significantly younger when he perpetrated his offences over a six-month period.
The magistrate His Honour Rhys Rowlands characterised the defendant as “depraved” and asserted that his conduct was disgraceful and erroneous. He sentenced Osian Owen to four and a half years for each of five charges of raping a child under 13, to be served concurrently, and an additional six months for causing or persuading a girl under 13 to engage in sexual behaviour.
He is required to register indefinitely as a sex offender and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order. Osian Owen was issued a ten-year restraining order forbidding any contact with his victims.
