A former Jersey police officer, Elle Rebecca Keens, charged with the sexual grooming of a minor, has claimed that the girl subjected her to verbal and physical abuse.

Elle Rebecca Keens, 29, appeared in the island’s Royal Court, where she denied the allegation of transmitting sexually explicit messages to a girl under the age of 16.

Ms. Elle Rebecca Keens testified that the youngster threatened her with violence by brandishing a screwdriver at her abdomen, yanking her hair, and pulling her across the floor.

The court was presented with a video displaying marks on Ms. Keen’s neck, which she claims were caused by the child strangling her.

Ms. Elle Rebecca Keens informed the court that she experienced intimidation from the youngster and was struck on the head and face by objects including a tennis ball and play dough.

An audio tape was presented in which the child is allegedly heard tossing objects at Ms. Keens and giggling while she articulates her discomfort.

Ms Elle Rebecca Keens sent a text to her friend, alleging the child said, “You have five minutes to make effort with me and make me happy or I’m telling people you’re a paedophile”.

Ms Elle Rebecca Keens told the court the child would state, “I know I can control you, I know you’ll do as I say”.

The prosecution claims that over six months, Ms Keens called the child 255 times and the pair sent each other more than 8,000 messages.
When asked why she referred to the child as her “girlfriend” and “wife”, Ms Keens explained that it was easier to go along with it than deal with the abuse.

Ms Elle Rebecca Keens met the child while working as a frontline police officer in Jersey, as she was called to an incident involving a number of young people.

The court heard from Ms Keens how she was praised by her supervisors for having a “positive impact” on the child but

Ms Elle Rebecca Keens denies the charge against her and the trial continues.
