James Doyle and Neil Dunkel Newark Paedophiles

Two Paedophile rapists, James Doyle and Neil Dunkel, have been sentenced to a total of 42 years in prison for the historical sexual abuse of two young female victims.

James Doyle, 62, consistently perpetrated egregious sexual abuse against one girl over an eight-year span, commencing when the victim was under 13 years old.

The other victim was merely 11 years old when she initially endured the abuse inflicted upon her.

A comprehensive array of offences occurred at multiple sites throughout Nottinghamshire.

James Doyle faced nine distinct charges, including seven instances of rape, all of which he always denied.

Neil Dunkel, 67, a friend of James Doyle, was charged with raping one of the victims on two separate occasions after being invited to a location by Doyle.

The deceptions of James Doyle and Neil Dunkel compelled the victims to endure the traumatic experience anew during a three-week trial in November.

Subsequent to the trial, a jury adjudicated James Doyle, previously of Newark, guilty of seven charges of rape, coercing an individual into sexual intercourse, and abusing a girl through physical contact.

Neil Dunkel, previously of Newark, was convicted on two counts of rape.

James Doyle and Neil Dunkel were presented at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, June 6.

In victim impact statements, both victims, now adults, disclosed how the “horrific” abuse adversely affected their mental health and conveyed the tremendous impact it had on their childhoods and early adulthood.

Judge James Sampson imposed a prolonged 30-year prison sentence on James Doyle, characterising the child rapist as “undoubtedly dangerous” and a “significant risk to girls.”

James Doyle is required to serve a minimum of two-thirds of his 26-year sentence in prison. He will thereafter spend a further four years on extended license, if he is ever released.

Neil Dunkel received a 12-year prison sentence.

James Doyle and Neil Dunkel will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of their lives.

Police Constable David Turnbull, who led the investigation, said:

“James Doyle subjected two vulnerable young girls to horrifying sexual abuse, the likes of which nobody should ever have to go through.

“Put simply, his actions were completely unforgivable and just pure evil.

“To compound matters, he then colluded with Neil Dunkel to abuse one of the victims. It is right that Neil Dunkel has also now received a substantial prison sentence.

“At no point has either defendant, James Doyle and Neil Dunkel, shown any level of remorse or contrition for their horrendous behaviour and actually forced the victims to relive everything that happened to them all over again by lying about what they did in court.

“I can only imagine how difficult and upsetting an ordeal this must have been for the victims and the bravery and patience both them, and other witnesses, have shown must be commended.

“I hope that the knowledge James Doyle and Neil Dunkel will now be behind bars for a very long time will serve as some form of comfort for them.”
