The sentencing of a Windsor Pedophile, Jason Troy Pitts from Nova Scotia, charged with the creation and possession of child pornography, has been postponed less than a year after the conclusion of his parole for analogous offences.

Jason Troy Pitts, 49, appeared in Kentville Supreme Court on Thursday morning; however, sentencing was postponed at the request of defence attorney Ken Greer.

Greer stated that a pre-sentence report, acquired only last week, referenced dangers linked with Jason Troy Pitts, necessitating a discussion with his client to ascertain the need for a sexual offender assessment.

He stated his desire to engage in that debate with Jason Troy Pitts face-to-face, but he was unable to get a time for it until Friday of this week.

Jason Troy Pitts has been in detention since his arrest, necessitating Greer to schedule meetings with him at the Burnside jail.

Jason Troy Pitts entered a guilty plea on April 17 to charges of conspiracy, production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, as well as two counts of communication with another individual to facilitate offences against minors. One of the crimes pertains to individuals under 18 years of age, while the other applies to those under 16 years of age.

Jason Troy Pitts will return to court this summer for an update regarding the potential application for an assessment.

The RCMP initiated an inquiry in July 2022 following a tip that Pitts was purportedly utilising the internet in contravention of a lifetime ban imposed due to his prior crimes. In September, they confiscated smartphones, computers, computer peripherals, and papers, subsequently charging Jason Troy Pitts with breaching the injunction.

In February 2023, Jason Troy Pitts was re-arrested following the completion of the police’s forensic analysis of the confiscated goods. The police claimed that a substantial quantity of child pornography was present on the devices.

His internet ban was mandated following his 2015 sentencing to seven years in prison for child pornography offences. At the commencement of the investigation, Jason Troy Pitts had only five months elapsed since the conclusion of his parole period about the charges.

RCMP said at the time of Jason Troy Pitts’s arrest that the charge of making child pornography didn’t involve any local victims. Pitts’ previous convictions included crimes in which he contacted adults overseas using the internet and convinced them to sexually assault children, sometimes their own.

In those cases, Jason Troy Pitts, 47, recorded livestreams of the assaults while giving the adults directions on how to assault the children. One of the cases involved a woman who was assaulting her daughter, and Jason Troy Pitts was trying to bring both of them to Canada.

It hasn’t been revealed whether the new charges involve the same kind of activity.

Jason Troy Pitts pleaded guilty in 2014 to 11 charges involving production of child pornography, possession of child pornography and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
