A paedophile couple, Summer Andrew & Nick Barrett, who used the former internet chat site Omegle to enable sexual offences against children have been imprisoned for 15 years overall.
Appearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday 17 July, Summer Andrew, 23 of Old Road, Clacton and Nick Barrett, 23 of Claydon Road, Harwich were sentenced.
December 2021 saw the start of an inquiry by our Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) based on intelligence concerning Andrew and Barrett having sex online while in front of minors.
Additional investigations turned out that Summer Andrew & Nick Barrett had recorded themselves having sex in return for viewing live footage of a four-year-old youngster being mistreated.
On June 29, 2022 they were arrested and charged. Nick Barrett was accused of organising or encouraging the commission of a child sex offence as well as of having sex in front of a kid.
Summer Andrew’s charge was commission of a child sex crime arrangement.
Nick Barrett entered a guilty plea to both charges and received a 12-year sentence, minimum of 7 years in jail.
Nick Barrett was characterised during the court process as lacking “insight into your sexual preoccupation and present a real risk of sexual harm to children in the future.”
Summer Andrew entered not guilty, but on April 11, 2024, was convicted guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court after a trial. Her jail sentence was three years.
Summer Andrew & Nick Barrett received an infinite NRO (Notification Requirement Order) and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
“This offence is so serious only a custodial can be justified,” Judge Morgan declared.
